Ari kallummakaya/ Ari kadukka (Stuffed mussels)

It is most popular Malabar sea food recipe. This is my most favourite food item and here in Qatar I extremely missed it. Actually this one is prepared by my mother. Last month my sister came she brought it. That was very tasty.  


Ingredients

Fresh mussels                                            : 20

Par boiled rice                                            :  2 cup

Grated coconut                                           : 1 cup

Chopped Shallot                                          :  1 tbsp

Fennel seed                                                :  3 tsp

Salt to taste

Chilli powder                                               :  2 tsp

Turmeric powder                                       : ½ tsp

Oil for frying

 

Preparation

  1. Clean the mussels and open the shell (to open the shell slide knife at straight portion of the slit and slide around carefully. keep aside

  2. Wash and soak the rice for 4- 6 hour

  3. Drain rice and mix with grated coconut, shallot, fennel seed, salt and  grind with little water until get thick dough

  4. Fill the mussel with dough and stem it for 25-30 minute and let it cool

  5. Remove the shell and marinate with chilli powder, turmeric powder and pinch of salt

  6. In a pan heat oil and shallow fry marinated mussels both side

(Note: Instead of grinding rice you can use rice flour. For this preparation you have to grind coconut, shallot and fennel seed  first then mix this into rice flour and add equal amount of boiled water with salt into it (for 1 cup rice flour 1 cup water). Mix properly and make thick smooth dough.)
