Chicken chatti pathiri (Layered pastry)

It’s a famous yummy spicy Malabar dish. It can serve as a starter and as evening snack. Here I explain preparation of chatty pathiri with chicken, we can prepare it with beef, mutton and prawn. Ithink chatti pathiri with prawn stuffing is more tasty than others.

 

 Ingredients

 

All purpose flour                                          :     1 cup

Chicken                                                         :     250g

Turmeric powder                                          :     ½ tsp

Pepper powder                                             :     1 tsp

Garam masala                                               :     ½ tsp

Onion (medium size)                                     :     3

Green chilli                                                   :     4

Garlic (finely chopped )                                :     1tsp

Ginger (finely chopped)                                :     1tsp

Curry leaves and coriander leaves               :     1tbsp

Turmeric powder                                         :     1/4 tsp

Pepper powder                                             :     1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

egg                                                               :    3 

Vegetable oil                                                :     2tbsp

 

Preparation

  1. In a bowl mix all purpose flour, salt and enough water to make a soft dough , knead the dough until it smooth

  2. Divide it into five equal part and each piece roll into a ball

  3. With the help of rolling pin make very thin tortillas

  4. Cook these in a pan for few seconds (take out before turning brown)

  5. In another pan mix chicken or beef, ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1tsp pepper powder, ½ tsp garam masala, salt and enough water

  6. Cook well and mince the meat into small pieces

  7. Place a pan in low fire and add 1tbsp of oil

  8. Add finely chopped onion into this and sauté for 3 minute

  9. Add green chilli, garlic, ginger one by one and sauté

  10. Add ¼ tsp turmeric powder, ½ tsp pepper powder, ¼ tsp garam masala, salt mix well and keep for few more minutes

  11. Finally add curry leaves and coriander leaves

  12. Turn off the fire and let it to cool

  13. In a non-stick pan add 1tsp of vegetable oil and keep in low fire

  14. In a bowl add two eggs and stir well

  15. Dip one tortilla in egg and place this in hot non-stick pan

  16. Add meat mixture on above this and spread nicely

  17. On top of it, place one more tortilla dipped in egg

  18. Again add meat mixture on it and do the same as above

  19. Repeat it until the tortilla finish

  20. pour remaining egg on top of it

  21. Flip and cook on the other side until it turn golden brown colour

note:  (If you are preparing it with prawn, shallow fry the prawn with chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt then mix with prepared stuffing)
